Reader Comments:
Encouraging but limited and not that deep, only skims the surface

This book is not the book for the person who actually wants to really grow spiritually or reach a deeper relationship with Christ because it simply does not address the tangible ways in which to go about doing that and merely skims the surface of what a daily relationship with God must/does look like.

This book is a general overview of Christianity but is missing some vital points that seem to be "overlooked" or actually left out in order to make the book more appealing to the masses. For instance, the whole idea of discipleship is discussed as if it were an easy, readily attainable token of growth. As all of us know, spiritual growth, or any maturity for that matter, is not easy and can not be achieved just by reading a couple of pages a day.

This is where Warren really misses the mark where other authors have really shined and made significant contributions. Dallas Willard's "Spirit of the Disciplines," and new author, J.G. Marking's, "A Voice Is Calling" do an infinitely better job at adressing the reality of discipleship, which requires a healthier perspective, genuine work and honest effort to achieve any kind of growth.

That said, PDL does give the reader an introduction to some broad aspects of Christianity but could use some more Bible (should have been limited to three or four versions!) and Christ as source instead of PDL as the book to end all books regarding information and, well, purpose.

Easy, welcoming read but I recommend other authors and books for deeper, more genuine approach to spiritual growth and Christian discipleship.
