Leading by example
"The Confident Woman" has worthwhile messages for people of all faiths. Even those individuals who do not make religion part of their life can appreciate Joyce Meyer's commitment -- and even her creativity in bringing practical messages to her audience. Meyer inspires by her knowledge and how she delivers her message - and by her commitment to strengthening the role of women in the community and all aspects of life.
Yes, Joyce Meyer puts on quite a show for her live audience and television viewers. But unlike many of her male counterparts, she never forgets the responsibilities of leadership. What you see (and what you read in her book) is what you get. Meyer inspires by her impressive example of how people should behave and gives people the courage to move beyond their fears and doubts.
Let me be clear that although I do not accept Meyer's religious doctrine and therefore her theological conclusions, and I focus my own writings on religious hypocrisy, I still find that Joyce Meyer has all the tools to be a worthy and inspiring teacher. Faith, wit, intelligence and good works are a combination that has all the ingredients for success. Whatever the reader's beliefs might be, Joyce Meyer has a practical message and presents it in a manner that can be respected. (The reviewer is the author of: "The Salvation Peddler," "The Last Pope," and "Abraham, Isaac, Jacob & Zev.")
